Dear John,

I am thrilled to greet you with exciting news this week! Yesterday, the House passed my Invest to Protect Act. This bill will create a new, $60 million grant program for small and mid-sized police departments to hire, train and retain qualified officers. Nearly every single police department in Minnesota’s Second District would be eligible for these grants!

These funds will help effectively address the unique needs of our small and mid-sized police departments and provide them with the resources they need to combat rising crime rates and keep their communities safe from harm. The first responsibility of any public servant is to keep their communities safe, which is why I am so proud to see this bill get over the finish line.

Here are some of the other highlights from this week:

Finding Common Ground
Thanks to Bruce Bond and Erik Olsen from the non-partisan Common Ground Committee for stopping by my office this week to talk bipartisanship and how I’m getting things done working across the aisle! Proud to be named in the top 3% most bipartisan Members.

Meeting with Minnesota’s Transportation Alliance
I also had the opportunity to catch up with Minnesota’s Transportation Alliance earlier this week. It was great to talk about our shared transportation and infrastructure priorities in Minnesota.

Supporting Home-Grown Energy
This week, I was proud to receive Growth Energy’s Fueling Growth Award for my continued support of homegrown American renewable fuels. Advocating for biofuels is a no-brainer when it comes to lowering energy costs and supporting Minnesota farmers!

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

I had a chance to get some beagle puppy therapy in this week. Homeward Trails Animal Rescue was on Capitol Hill. It was great to meet these cuties and learn more about their cause!

I’m glad to come home to Minnesota with a win this week! Supporting public safety means safer communities, so I am thrilled that we got this critical bill over the finish line.

Until next time,
