1. Victory Fund Endorses Lori Lightfoot’s Reelection
Last weekend, LGBTQ Victory Fund President and CEO, Mayor Annise Parker, announced on-stage (video) at the Midwest Brunch that Victory Fund is endorsing Lori Lightfoot’s reelection campaign. Since her historic victory in 2019, Mayor Lightfoot has taken on big fights and won on behalf of her constituents, including investing heavily in climate and environmental justice initiatives, working to address housing insecurity, safeguarding abortion access and advancing LGBTQ rights in the city. 2. Abortion Rights and the Insurrection Front and Center in Long Island Congressional Race
ICYMI: New York’s Third Congressional race is making waves since it’s the first time two LGBTQ Congressional candidates are facing off in a general election! While both candidates are LGBTQ, they could not be more different. Victory Fund endorsed candidate Robert Zimmerman has spent years fighting for equality, defending abortion rights in New York and defending democracy. His opponent George Santos, on the other hand, has paid legal bills for January 6th insurrectionists, compared the debate over abortion rights to that over slavery and proudly supports Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

4. Abortion Ban Passes in West Virginia
Danielle Walker, West Virginia’s only Black woman lawmaker and one of just two LGBTQ members of the state legislature, took to the floor of the West Virginia House of Delegates to try to convince her colleagues to protect choice in the state. West Virginia, after the law’s passage, became the second U.S. state to pass an abortion ban in the wake of Roe v. Wade’s overturning.
