Hi John,
Sarai Lara was a 16-year-old sophomore at Mount Vernon High School and a cancer survivor. Shayla Martin was a 52-year-old makeup artist on break from work. Chuck Eagan was a 61-year-old Boeing worker. Belinda Galde was a 64-year-old probation officer and Beatrice Dotson was her 95-year-old mother.
They were all treasured friends, family, and community members whose lives were stolen six years ago today in a mass shooting at Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington.
HONOR THEM WITH ACTION: [link removed]
The Cascade Mall shooter carried out his attack with a semi-automatic assault rifle equipped with a high-capacity magazine. High-capacity magazines make it easier to fire more rounds, faster. In other words, they make shootings deadlier. And this is one reason why they are so common among mass shooters.
This year, we finally passed lifesaving restrictions on high-capacity magazines in Washington–a victory six years in the making. The law took effect on July 1st and our gun lobby opponents have already filed TWO lawsuits in desperate attempts to block the measure.
We know this law is constitutional. And we know that it will help prevent tragedies like the Cascade Mall shooting from continuing to happen. But we need your help to take on the gun lobby.
We’ve faced our gun lobby opponents in court almost a dozen times and remain undefeated. But success is not a guarantee. These battles take time and resources. And our opposition is banking on us running out of both.
Please, honor the Cascade Mall victims, and each gun violence victim taken from us far too soon, with action by funding our fight to protect lifesaving high-capacity magazine restrictions. [link removed]
Thank you,
Renée (she/her)
