This week, I voted to pass a year-end appropriations bill that sends billions of dollars to North Carolina's military installations, expands health care choices for veterans, and provides security funding for the 2020 RNC Convention in Charlotte.
I’m proud we secured desperately-needed funding for Camp Lejeune to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Florence. I’m also proud of the provisions that will improve the health care options for veterans, help secure the southern border, and combat the opioid epidemic that is impacting so many families across North Carolina.
The Senate also passed the National Defense Authorization Act to improve the lives of servicemembers and military families. I led the effort to pass an across the board 3.1% pay raise for our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. Additionally, I worked to secure a number of reforms to take meaningful steps to address the serious issues with the Military Housing Privatization Initiative.
I introduced the SANTA Act this week, just in time for Christmas, to help parents protect their children against dangerous counterfeit toys and products, as Americans increasingly turn to online vendors.
This week, the Senate passed the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED Act), anti-robocall legislation that I co-sponsored. I have never met a single person who enjoys receiving these pestering calls, and I am proud Congress came together to crack down on illegal robocalls. The bill now heads to the president's desk.
The Senate also passed bipartisan legislation, I co-sponsored, that would give much-needed resources to state and local law enforcement agencies to complete forensic analysis of crime scenes and untested rape kits.
On the second anniversary of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act passing, I discussed the positive impact tax reform has had on North Carolina families and businesses. Watch more below to learn how tax reform is helping North Carolinians.
Susan and I also want to wish all North Carolinians a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
