No one can be blind to what happens when democrats are not loud and proud. In 2016 we let our country suffer a grievous wound, and the conservative movement has only sickened since then. The justice system was packed with injustice, rights to bodily autonomy have been taken away, we lost vital years in resisting the upcoming climate massacres, and oppressive authoritarianism across the globe was buoyed in the struggle against progressive democracy.

As the November election approaches every single one of us must speak out at every opportunity, spending effort to convince every possible person to vote for progressive candidates and policies. We must not simply “avoid politics” to be polite or inoffensive. What others might call offensive is a matter of life and death for us all. We cannot think that because we live in California, our voices as progressives are not necessary. The regressive conservative movement is evangelical in every sense, constantly trying to pipeline inattentive or vulnerable people with the allure of comfort and approval for our self-serving impulses.

It is tiring to do good. But even hampered by a landscape of judges and justices picked to favore privilege over public law, the regressive minority cannot be victorious unless they convince the majority of decent people that the battle for the greater good and a new, brighter future is already lost.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

Some of you might be wondering why National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September the 15th instead of, like most months, the 1st. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Indigenous People’s Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this period.

Join Us at the Fair

October is near and as the baseball season is coming to a close, the Big Fresno Fair begins. Every year, the Fresno County Democratic Party has a fair booth to not only promote our values, but to register people to vote and highlight our democratic elected leaders and candidates.

We are calling on you as leaders, as electeds and as democrats to help us fill volunteer shifts. This is a great opportunity for your campaign to highlight your candidacy and show hundreds of thousands of people we are here and working for them!

If you are a club chair, please ask your members to volunteer on behalf of your club for a 3 hour shift.

If you are an elected or a candidate, please have your staff contact us for a 3 hour shift.

If you have volunteered before and want to do it again, please contact us for a 3 hour shift.

If you want to register voters before attending a concert, please contact us for a 3 hour shift.

The Fresno Fair will be open for 12-days this year beginning:

Wednesday, October 5th to Sunday, October 16th.

We have 3 hour shifts available for volunteer opportunities.

The shifts are:

Mon – Thursday 9:30am-1:00pm | 1:00pm-4pm| 4p.m. - 7:00p.m. and 7:00p.m. - 10:00p.m

Fri, Sat, Sun 9:30a.m. - 1:00pm | 1:00pm-4:00pm | 4:00pm-7:00pm | 7:00pm-10:00pm

We will provide each volunteer a free admissions pass for the day of your fresno fair volunteer shift.

Parking is not covered for our volunteers, but if you don't mind walking a bit, there is free street parking around the fairgrounds. For those who want to park at any of the fair parking lots, we can provide you with parking lot prices and locations.

Newsom Signs Sweeping Climate Measures

Thankfully California has just enacted some of the nation’s most aggressive climate measures in history as Governor Gavin Newsom signed a sweeping package of legislation to cut pollution, protect Californians from big polluters, and accelerate the state’s transition to clean energy. The Governor partnered with legislative leaders this session to advance groundbreaking measures to achieve carbon neutrality no later than 2045 and 90% clean energy by 2035, establish new setback measures protecting communities from oil drilling, capture carbon pollution from the air, advance nature-based solutions, and more.

This is an essential piece of the California Climate Commitment, a record $54 billion investment in climate action that exceeds what most countries are spending and advances economic opportunity and environmental justice in communities across the state.

Over the next two decades, the California Climate Commitment will:

Create 4 million new jobs
Cut air pollution by 60%
Reduce state oil consumption by 91%
Save California $23 billion by avoiding the damages of pollution
Reduce fossil fuel use in buildings and transportation by 92%
Cut refinery pollution by 94%

We Stopped a Blackout

The conservative forces have shifted tactics from denying the existence of climate change to denying our ability to thwart it. Their advocates stress a weary pessimism that says any actions an individual can take are pointless so there is no reason for anyone to try. However, even in a world of countries and corporations, individuals can have an impact. This summer’s heat wave has dwarfed last year’s and is even worse than the 2020 heat wave that caused blackouts

Yet we’ve successfully avoided blackouts that have plagued other states by banding together to use less energy and reduce the strain on our power grid. Californians answered the call to reduce using major appliances, including charging electric vehicles, during peak hours of energy demand.

Fortunately, California is moving to decarbonization rapidly with nearly 30 new gigawatts of clean electricity generation capacity expected by the end of this year. This will both increase our resilience and do our part to stop making the problem worse.
