Dear friends,

The most ambitious global health legislation ever introduced in U.S. Congress is now on the floor of the House. Its name? The Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution. We need your help to build support for it.

Take Action [[link removed]]

Our elected officials and the U.S. federal government have a duty to recognize their responsibility in making health care accessible to everyone around the world.

That’s why we’re so thankful for this greatly needed legislation honoring Paul’s vision and life’s work, which Representatives Jan Schakowsky, Barbara Lee, and Raul Ruiz just introduced in the House of Representatives.

Here are four demands rooted in solidarity and justice this Resolution makes:

1. The Federal Government must adopt a 21st century global health solidarity strategy that ensures public sector health systems around the world  have the “Five S’s,” as coined by Paul, or the staff, space, stuff, systems, and social support needed for high-quality care delivery.

2. U.S. Government global health spending should increase to $125 billion per year in the coming years, and be localized and invested in national health infrastructure—improving its effectiveness and efficiency.

3. The Federal Government must take action to address its past and ongoing harms that undermine the health and wellbeing of people around the world by supporting global economic justice reforms like canceling debt for low- and middle-income countries and supporting global labor rights and living wages.

4. The U.S. Government should also support redress for the past and ongoing harms of colonialism, including reparations for: the institution of slavery, imperialist interventions that have undermined sovereignty and democracy, and climate breakdown that unjustly and overwhelmingly burdens the global South.

This Resolution has the potential to be revolutionary for global health. It provides a necessary framework rooted in Paul’s analysis on the global history of slavery, colonialism, and external government interference that have impoverished countries for centuries. Now, we have a chance to push our elected officials to acknowledge harm caused globally and take action.

Act now by telling your Representative to support Paul’s vision by passing this Resolution. It’s easy and takes just one minute >> [[link removed]]
