U.S. Congressman Steve Stivers
As your Representative in Congress, one of the most important things I can do is help navigate bureaucratic agencies, like the Social Security Administration.  While I cannot override decisions made by SSA, my office may be able to intervene and help streamline the process.  If you are struggling to get your benefits, I encourage you to call my Wilmington office at (937) 283-7049.

SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICES UPDATE PUBLIC HOURS

I also want to share an important update from the Social Security Administration.  They have updated their office hours nationwide.  Beginning on January 8, any field office will be open to the public from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  Previously, field offices closed at noon on Wednesdays.

The SSA is also hiring an additional 1,100 employees to better serve those who need assistance.

UPDATES TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE PROGRAM

Last, there have been important updates made to the social security payee system.

Under the Strengthening Protections for Social Security Beneficiaries Act of 2018, a bill that I was proud to support, social security beneficiaries can now designate another individual to serve as payee should the need arise.  This is a change from current law that required SSA to select the representative payee on behalf of the beneficiary.

The Social Security Administration is still finalizing the implementation of this new policy, but it should take effect early next year.  To select a representative payee, you will be able to go online to your mySSA account at www.ssa.gov/myaccount/.  Again, if you have any questions about this policy, or need help setting up your mySSA account, do not hesitate to contact my office.

It's my honor to serve you, and if I can ever be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
