After Trump's victory in 2016, we didn't despair. We got to work. We stood up for our communities and showed up to the polls in 2018 to usher in a Democratic majority to serve as a check on Donald Trump.

As the chairman of the Oversight Committee, my late husband Elijah Cummings was front and center demanding answers, holding Trump accountable, and energizing all of us for the fight ahead. [[link removed]]

→ When Michael Cohen testified, and after the Mueller report was released, Elijah challenged all Americans to get off the sidelines and think about how future generations will look upon our efforts to save the soul of our democracy.

→ When the DHS secretary tried to defend the indefensible policy of child separation at the border, Elijah’s righteous anger and passion spoke for all of us.

→ When Donald Trump told four congresswomen of color, "go back to where you came from," Elijah showed us the literal scars he bore from people telling him the same thing as a child in segregated Baltimore.

→ When Donald Trump tweeted vile, racist attacks about Baltimore and Elijah, Elijah’s grace and dignity reminded us to never stoop to Trump’s level.

Elijah loved his country and defended our democracy until his last breath. I promised Elijah that I would continue his work. I’m ready to go to Congress to finish what he started and build upon his legacy. [[link removed]]
