This week, our campaign was honored to announce the endorsement of DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick.
In his statement, Mendrick said:
“Keith Pekau is what a real law and order mayor looks like. He is a leader who cares more about the safety of his citizens, law enforcement officers, and has actively been working against those who are soft on crime and wish to dismantle the police,” Mendrick said in a statement.
“While crime rates are rising at alarming levels across the rest of Cook County, crime rates in Orland Park have dropped to their lowest rates in 27 years. Under Pekau's leadership, Orland Park has flourished. People are keeping their families there, and over 600 new businesses have opened in Orland Park in the past 5 years. They’re moving to Orland Park because they know that with Mayor Pekau at the helm, they will be safe. His common-sense leadership has served his community very well. I am endorsing Keith, and fully supporting his campaign to take his smart, no-nonsense approach to public safety to Congress. I know he will be a leader in restoring peace on American streets and making our families safe.”
With over 25 years in law enforcement, Sheriff Mendrick is a well-respected figure in DuPage County, the second largest county in Illinois. His innovative approach to law enforcement has made DuPage County safer, reduced the rates of recidivism and relapse among ex-offenders, empowered ex-offenders to become self-sufficient through workplace readiness preparation and skills development.
Mendrick leads 400 sworn officers and 100 civilian employees.

Press Release: Pekau Announces Innovative Program to Keep Orland Park Safe, Despite Kim Foxx, Sean Casten and the SAFE-T Act
Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau has announced an innovative policing program designed to keep his community safe in the era of Kim Foxx and Sean Casten’s anti-police, pro-criminal efforts, and - of course - the insane SAFE-T Act.

The initiative is a first-of-its-kind agreement with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) that makes two Orland Park police officers part-time ATF agents. The partnership will allow the local officers to take applicable cases straight to the Assistant US Attorney, and bypass Cook County and the dangerous stipulations of the Safe-T Act, to get federal charges against violent criminals.
Pekau said of the partnership, “Federal prosecutors WILL prosecute these crimes and Federal judges CAN use bail to detain violent criminals and KEEP them off the street.
“Even better, it does not impact our budget or commit our officers to do anything we do not want them to do. This is yet another example of our outstanding police department finding ways to keep you safe. Creative programs like the Mobile and Targeted Response Units, and now this are why we have the lowest index crimes in 27 years and were the 8th safest small city in the United States.
“This is great work and why I will continue to say we have the best Police Department in the State. I applaud the leadership of the department, our village and our board.
Together, we will continue to fight the dangerous public safety policies of Kim Foxx, JB Pritzker, and our Congressional representation and do everything in our power to keep you safe.”

Pekau’s tireless efforts to build relationships between various law enforcement agencies, as well as between private businesses and citizens has resulted in the lowest crime rates in Orland Park in 27 years. His work stands in stark contrast to the efforts of Congressman Sean Casten, who has voted for numerous measures that make communities less safe.
For example, Casten co-sponsored the federal bill to handcuff police and protect criminals, entitled ‘The Justice in Policing” Act, as well as voting against the federal ban on Fentanyl.
On the issue of public safety, the choice in IL-06 is clear: Keith Pekau has made his community more safe. Sean Casten has put us all at risk.

CBS-2: Gov. Pritzker, AG Raoul Sued by Two Counties Claiming the SAFE-T Act is Unconstitutional
The Kankakee and Will County State's Attorneys are suing Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul to declare the Safe-T Act unconstitutional.
The Safe-T Act, which will go into effect in January, brings major criminal justice reform.

Keith’s Comment: This barely passed because many Democrats know this is a bad idea.
Unfortunately at the state level in Orland Park, Senators Michael Hastings & Emil Jones, Representative Slaughter and Governor Pritzker think that risking the safety of citizens is OK.
This mimics the national policies espoused by Sean Casten and Joe Biden that leave borders open, seek to decriminalize fentanyl and prioritize criminals ahead of public safety.
Let's hope they win in court.
