One of my top responsibilities as your elected representative is to provide you with information on the work happening both in Washington D.C. and at home in Sacramento County. I would like to take a minute to do two things:

Share the ongoing work I'm doing in Washington to strengthen outdated medical processes and lower costs for families and workers in Sacramento County.
Share the work my office is doing in our community to bring bring federal resources to your doorstep.

Bera-Led Legislation Passes to Improve Medical Care for Seniors

As a doctor who has cared for our nation’s seniors, I know that we should make it easier – not harder – for our seniors to get the care they need and deserve.

Unfortunately, medical care is routinely delayed for thousands of seniors because of administrative obstacles in our health care system, called prior authorization.

That’s why I worked with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to introduce a straightforward bill that would make it easier for our seniors to get the care they need by cutting unnecessary red tape in the health care system.

After receiving support from over 320 Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, and over 500 organizations, I’m excited to share that my bill just unanimously passed the U.S. House of Representatives!

I’m urging the Senate to quickly take up this legislation and get it to the President’s desk so there’s no delay in medical care for our nation’s seniors.

Inflation Reduction Act

I proudly voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, comprehensive legislation to lower costs for Sacramento County families and small businesses, reduce health care and prescription drug costs, and combat climate change.

This transformative law is helping to lower costs at the pharmacy and at the gas pump without raising taxes a single penny on families making under $400,000 a year.

Instead, this law ensures the wealthiest corporations finally start paying their fair share in taxes.

This summer in California, we also have seen the continued impact of the climate crisis with historic wildfires, droughts, and heatwaves.

The Inflation Reduction Act is the boldest action taken in American history to protect our environment and lower household energy costs.

This bill was signed into law by President Biden on August 16th, 2022.

Service Academy Day - September 24th

Every year, I’m privileged to nominate bright and hardworking students to attend our nation’s military service academies. Click here for information on the Service Academy nomination process and instructions on how to apply.

Our service academies are some of the top universities in the country and help build strong leaders in our military and beyond. To help local young people navigate the application process, my office will host a Virtual Service Academy Information Day on Saturday, September 24 at 10:00 AM PT.

This event is open to all high school students interested in applying to a service academy as well as their parents, teachers, and guidance counselors.

7th Annual Brain Health Forum – October 7

Alzheimer's remains one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. As a doctor and as the former Chief Medical Officer of Sacramento County, I'm very concerned about how this disease is impacting our parents and grandparents.

That's why my office is hosting our 7th annual Brain Health Forum on Thursday, October 6 at 9:30 AM to provide local residents with information on the latest in Alzheimer's research and what community resources are available to assist caregivers and persons living with Alzheimer's or other dementias.

Representatives from other community groups will also be available for a community resource fair where they will answer individual questions and provide resources.
