Injured football player waits hours for ambulance to arrive

Jennifer Lee-Parsons sat on the field, consoling her son Isiah after he injured his leg during the first game of his high school football season last Sunday.
“He just kept saying ‘my leg, my leg,’” Parsons says. “With him asking continually ‘can somebody help me? Can somebody take me to hospital?’” his mother says.

Alberta paramedic killed in highway ambulance crash remembered for her compassion

Heritage Park Pavilion was filled with memories, laughter and tears on Wednesday for the celebration of life of long-time paramedic Dallas Boyko.
The 51-year-old primary care paramedic and mother was remembered for her personality, amazing cooking and, most of all, her compassion.
“She is what brought each and every one of us here today,” said Ben Penner, paramedic and EMS chaplain.

After nine years under the same service provider contract for local ambulance operations, Alberta Health Services and the BRFA have signed a new short-term agreement. The previous agreement was set to lapse on Aug. 31.

Paramedic in Toronto ambulance helicopter struck in eye by green laser

Representatives with Ornge air ambulance say one of its paramedics was struck in the eye when someone pointed a green laser in the air as the Toronto helicopter was transporting a patient.
A spokesperson says the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. on Friday when the Toronto-based ambulance helicopter was set to land carrying a patient at the Niagara Falls Fire Hall.

Grey Bruce receives $14.5M for ambulance services

Grey Bruce is receiving $14.5 million from the province to assist the region with ambulance services.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers says Bruce County will be receiving $6.3 million, while Grey County will receive $8.4 million to help with the hiring of additional paramedics, wage and cost of living adjustments, and general ambulance services operation.

Sask. ambulance company donates vehicle to Ukraine

A Saskatchewan company has donated an ambulance to help humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
“These efforts stemmed from the very first #InternationalParamedicsDay during which, a former WPD Ambulance student, Ukrainian by descent, reached out to the many ambulance services across the province of Saskatchewan asking for support and assistance in sending equipment and support to paramedics intervening in Ukraine,” general manager of WPD and Rosthern & district ambulance Walter Dutchak said in a statement to CTV News.

Parkland Ambulance vehicles receive lighting upgrade

When called upon in the time of need, Parkland Ambulance ambulance and emergency response vehicles will be even more visible on the road.
All vehicles will now come equipped with blue, red, and white (white is required on an ambulance vehicle) emergency lights. It’s in response to the province’s Vehicle Equipment Amendment Regulations taking effect, which allows for emergency vehicles in the province to add blue lights to their emergency lighting scheme.

BC Emergency Health Service says it’s improving ambulance service in the community by providing eight full-time paramedic positions.
Nakusp is one of 31 communities that will be receiving more permanent full-time paramedics.

Bella Coola ambulance service had coverage for only half of July

The Bella Coola ambulance was only in-service 52 per cent of July, Lesley Pritchard, communications for BC Emergency Health Services stated in an email.
The in-service average over the past year was higher, at 75 per cent, but was still equivalent to one week per month without ambulance services.
