On?Monday, Lt. Governor Jon Husted traveled to Zanesville where he announced the expansion of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) ?Get in Line Online? system, which allows Ohioans to check in to the BMV before arriving to save time. InnovateOhio is coordinating the expansion of the program, which the administration launched as a pilot program in June 2019, statewide through mid-2020. Ohioans who used the system saved an average of 15 minutes on their visit, adding up to approximately 6,000 hours of saved time during the pilot period only.
On Tuesday, Governor DeWine joined Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Director Lori Criss and RecoveryOhio Director Alisha Nelson on a tour of Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare.??
On Wednesday, Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted held their first regional cabinet meeting, along with various events, in the Mahoning Valley.??
Governor DeWine attended a roundtable with local health commissioners, and discussed some of the unique health problems in the Mahoning Valley area.?
Lt. Governor Husted addressed a group of Career Tech administrators from the region about all the work being done through the Governor?s Office of Workforce Transformation to support their work, among other strategies to grow Ohio?s workforce.
Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted hosted their regional cabinet meeting at the Mahoning Valley Career and Technical Center, where they heard from students currently enrolled at the center.
In the afternoon, Governor DeWine signed House Bill 12, which created the Children's Behavioral Health Prevention Network Group.??
On Thursday,?Governor DeWine was joined by Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton, MD, MPH, and OhioHealth Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, to offer resources to those looking to quit using tobacco products in the new year.?
The Ohio Tobacco Quit Line (1-800-QUIT-NOW) provides personal quit coaching and telephone counseling free of charge to all adult Ohioans. For Ohioans under 18, call or text My Life, My Quit at 1-855-891-9989. This free program combines best practices and new ways for teens to reach a coach using live text messages or online chat.
Also on?Thursday, InnovateOhio, which is led by Lt. Governor Jon Husted, announced the highly-anticipated Ohio Broadband Strategy. The document serves as a comprehensive plan for aggressively expanding and enhancing the state?s broadband network. If approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), it will also qualify local governments in Ohio to receive 20 additional points on applications for federal ReConnect funding.
On Friday,?Governor DeWine announced that deaths caused by traffic crashes on Ohio?s roads this year have increased over 2018, making 2019 one of the deadliest years on Ohio roads during this decade.?
A total of 1,119 people have been killed in traffic crashes in Ohio this year to date, as compared to 1,068 traffic deaths during the entire year of 2018. Overall, traffic fatalities have increased in five of the past six years.
