I’m standing with survivors from Uvalde, TX, and Highland Park, IL, right on the U.S. Capitol lawn because senators cannot ignore us any longer. These communities were devastated by mass shootings involving an assault rifle this summer, and countless others have experienced the same tragedy. Assault rifles are weapons of war and they have no place in our communities. And each day the Senate ignores their duty to protect their constituents is another where people die from senseless gun violence.

It is long past time for our senators to take action to ban assault weapons, but Mitch McConnell and his army of NRA cronies are determined to stop this lifesaving action.
