Moccasins were worn by the Native people of the Great Plains for thousands of years before European people entered the continent, and were quickly adopted by French trappers, mountain men, and even some of the immigrants on the Oregon Trail. These contemporary Native moccasins are from our teaching collection and showcase hand-sewn beadwork.??

The Wyoming State Museum uses artifacts like these to teach more than 13,000 students a year through our award-winning Field Trips and Education Trunks! Our Field Trips are offered 100% free of charge to any school in the world and can be taught at the museum or over the internet, as a Virtual Field Trip.?

Cowboy & Cowgirl Legacy Week [ [link removed] ]
Cowboy & Cowgirl Legacy Week

September 11 - 17, 2022
________________________________________________________________________

Each year in Wyoming, the third calendar week of September is Cowboy and Cowgirl Legacy Week! Integral to the founding and development of Wyoming, cowboys and cowgirls transcend ethnicity, gender, geographic boundaries and political affiliations.

They embody the values of our state and ensure that future generations of Wyomingites are steeped in cowboy and cowgirl heritage, values and spirit. Through generations, they continue to be an important part of Wyoming's economy and make products valued in markets across the United States and internationally.

We pulled out some cowboy and cowgirl items from our collection to help celebrate. Take a look at this Facebook post to see them all up close!
