Hi John,
I talk a lot about the gun violence epidemic in America, but it’s important to also acknowledge something it’s closely tied to: mental health. This becomes extremely relevant when we discuss suicide by firearm, one of the leading causes of death among people aged 15-24.
Every year, almost 24,000 people die from suicide by firearm. We can help bring this number down by integrating mental health into our efforts to reform gun laws. That’s why I’m so excited about the Preventing Suicide Through Voluntary Firearm Purchase Delay Act that’s currently in Congress.
This bill would allow anyone to voluntarily enroll themselves in a “do not sell” list – preventing them from trying to purchase a firearm in the future that could be used to harm themselves or others, should they experience a mental health emergency.
John , will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of this crucial legislation? You can help play a part in suicide prevention through gun reform. [[link removed]]

Thousands of lives could be saved with this legislation, and your support will help put pressure on my fellow members of Congress to put this bill to a vote.
It shouldn’t be a controversial concept that guns should be inaccessible to people undergoing serious mental health emergencies. However, Republican lawmakers backed by gun lobbies have consistently shown that they’re closed off to even the most basic gun reforms.
