Dear John,
This week, the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act - read it here: [link removed] - was introduced in Congress. It's the broadest marijuana reform bill we've seen yet, aiming to deschedule marijuana at the federal level and let states set their own policies.
The Law Enforcement Action Partnership has signed on to the MORE Act because we believe in repairing the communities most damaged by bad policy. The MORE Act prioritizes righting the wrongs of marijuana prohibition by focusing on reparative justice and equity in the regulation process. Your representatives need to know that this matters to you: contact them now: [link removed]
From its inception, the War on Drugs has disproportionately impacted communities of color and low-income communities. It has made these communities less safe, destroyed families, prevented people from gainful employment and education opportunities, and created a barrier between police and the communities they serve.
Now is the time to ensure that those who have lost the most under prohibitive marijuana policies are able to succeed, whether it's through seeking resentencing and expungement of marijuana convictions or getting a fair chance at entering the cannabis industry via equitable licensing programs.
Stand with LEAP and our criminal justice and drug policy reform partners: tell your Members of Congress to support the MORE Act: [link removed]
In solidarity,
Major Neill Franklin (Ret.)
Executive Director
