Our lawsuits against voter suppression, gerrymandering, and more

ACLU Supporter –

The midterm elections are November 8 and as that day nears closer and closer, we wanted to send a few quick updates about the ongoing work surrounding it.

Make no mistake that while you prepare to vote this year, we at the ACLU are in the courts and statehouses nationwide to ensure that right is protected.

Our lawyers have been fighting back against discriminatory gerrymandering across states since the latest redistricting cycle began back in August – and we've been blocking blatant voter suppression long before then. We're no strangers to what it takes to protect our democracy and the future of our nation in critical elections. In fact, we've been doing it for over 100 years. And just in 2022 alone:

* We're litigating cases to defend voting rights against suppression tactics in states including Georgia, Montana, Pennsylvania, Texas, and more.

* We were in court to block newly-enacted discriminatory electoral maps in states including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, and more.

* Our case out of Alabama – filed along with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund – will be heard in front of the Supreme Court in October – and is bound to have a great impact on voter rights and equal representation. The case challenges the state's newly drawn congressional map, which minimizes the voting strength of Black voters by packing and cracking Black communities across districts.

That's only an overview of some of our key fights this year, ACLU Supporter. Remember we and our on-the-ground affiliates are present in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico and we're working every single day to fight against attacks on voting rights – and all civil liberties.

We know there continues to be a coordinated opposition against people's rights in this country, which is why we at the ACLU are here and not backing down. We have the power, a uniquely robust reach, and unmatchable support from activists like you to fight back – and win – in this once-in-a-generation fight.

We will do this through November – and we will continue far beyond. Count on it.

Thanks for being with us in the fight,
