1. Supreme Court issues first two opinions of the 2019-20 term

The court issued rulings on the statute of limitations for the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and on the recovery of attorneys fees and expenses under the U.S. Patent Act.  

2. Ballotpedia’s year-end analysis of 2019’s statewide ballot measures

Voters decided 36 statewide ballot measures in eight states in 2019, a higher number than the average of between 30 and 31 in odd-numbered years between 2009 and 2017. Twenty-two statewide measures in 2019 were approved and 14 were defeated.  

3. Voters approved 79% of local ballot measures in California in 2019

Voters across California decided 78 local ballot measures that Ballotpedia tracked in 2019. Our Ballot Measures team also analyzed California's local ballot questions in a year-end report.
