Blue Dog Coalition Statement on Public Safety Bills
WASHINGTON—The Co-Chairs of the Blue Dog Coalition—Reps. Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01), Ed Case (HI-01), Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), and Kurt Schrader (OR-05) issued the following statement ahead of the House vote on a package of public safety bills:
“Our constituents must feel safe living in their communities. With the passage of these bills, reforms will be made to address the needs of police departments across the nation. It’s an important step that provides millions of dollars to local law enforcement and is critical for police to know that we have their backs.”
In July, the Blue Dog Coalition urged the consideration of a slate of bills to address the rising rates of violent crime in America. Advancement of these public safety bills includes the Blue Dog endorsedInvest to Protect Act, which would establish a grant program to help police departments in smaller municipalities receive the resources and support needed to keep their communities safe.
