From the Jan. 6 insurrection and election deniers, to voter suppression laws and bad actors sowing disinformation, it is clear that America’s democracy is under attack. As a ProPublica reader, I know you’ve been aware of this for some time now — many of you have shared your concerns directly with us by way of feedback, questions and even tips.

We’re on it: ProPublica is no bystander when it comes to ensuring a transparent government, regardless of who is in power. We might be a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom, but we are staunchly in favor of a healthy democracy and we’ve got a team of reporters and editors working solely on this topic. We highlight one woman who has made it her mission to help her neighbors vote, even as it has made her a target.
