[1]Real Justice
John, this week's
headlines were dominated by Adnan Syed and his vacated conviction. After
20 years in jail for a wrongful conviction, he was freed.
His case received national — even worldwide — attention due to the hit
podcast Serial, who covered his story and the inconsistencies of the case.
And 2 years after the podcast, Circuit Judge Melissa Phinn ordered Syed be
freed and sent home while waiting for prosecutors to seek a new trial or
finally drop their weak case.
Who requested the judge to act though? None other than Baltimore City
State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby who was endorsed by Real Justice.
When we elect DAs who are focused on restoring justice in a community and
righting the wrongs of the past instead of just filling up jails, and
keeping wrongfully convicted people locked up — these are the kinds of
results we see.
[ [link removed] ]This is why we do what we do — but we can’t keep up our electoral
efforts to elect more DAs who will free innocent people without your help.
We are up against our End of Quarter deadline and still have a sizable gap
to hit our goal, can you make a donation right now?

While this case is getting MAJOR attention, our DAs have done similar work
freeing folks who were trapped in prison for wrongful convictions.
Kim Foxx, a Real Justice DA in Cook County, which includes Chicago,
announced that her office exonerated 8 people from murder convictions this
year.
All of these cases were connected to a corrupt and disgraced Chicago
Police Detective, Reynaldo Guevara. In fact, DOZENS of his cases have been
thrown out.
In those 30 cases, one put an innocent man in prison for 30 YEARS. Close
to 10 years longer than Adnan.
The Chicago detective had been accused of manipulating investigations and
framing victims — ruining lives — but these wrongfully convicted people
went free because Kim Foxx did the work to right his wrongs.
Kim has also thrown out over 100 convictions connected to another former
police Sergeant — Ronald Watts — who also planted evidence and fabricated
charges.
THESE are the kinds of DAs we need in every single city and town across
the country, restoring justice and not allowing the system to keep
innocent men and women locked away.
[ [link removed] ]And you can ensure we can continue our work to get them in office.
Make a donation right now towards our End of Quarter goal so we have the
resources to elect even more DAs like Marilyn and Kim.
Grateful for your support,
Real Justice
