Earlier this month, the governor and my opponent had a press conference to announce their opposition to new federal guidance from the Biden administration regarding Title IX. Those changes include an updated definition of “sex discrimination.”
The Biden administration's new rules prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, thus protecting LGBTQI+ students AND reversing many changes made under the Trump administration.
In Arkansas, we have *several* laws that say our state *can* discriminate, including the Medical Ethics & Diversity Act, Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, and SAFE Act (currently under judicial review).
Let’s be clear: our leaders would rather lose federal Title IX funding for our schools than ensure protections for Arkansas children and teens.
We have a lot of significant issues facing our state right now. Instead of addressing our overwhelmed foster care system, teen pregnancy rates, food insecurity, infrastructure problems, access to healthcare, education, teacher pay, gun violence, or the economy, our current leaders are manufacturing panic about a nonproblem.
This is another attempt to stoke fears and win an election – and our children and families deserve better than this.
If you believe a more inclusive Arkansas and nation are possible, can you give today to help me continue working toward that?
