We’re asking this movement to step up again to help provide urgent relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona.
Over the weekend, Hurricane Fiona devastated the island of Puerto Rico and continues to make landfall throughout the Caribbean.
On Monday, the entire island of Puerto Rico went dark when damage from the hurricane shut down their vulnerable electric grid. People have lost their lives and millions are still without power and running water (and could be for a long time).
This blackout and devastation comes almost exactly five years after Puerto Rico’s power grid was devastated by Hurricane María in September 2017, leaving many residents without electricity for months.
While we work for long term solutions, we’re asking this movement to step up again to help provide urgent relief in the aftermath of this disaster. Can you make a $3 donation to Vamos PR to support on-the-ground relief?

Nuestra Escuela is the fiscal conduit who will be providing support with Vamos PR to nearly two dozen organizations. 100% of your donation will go to this coalition of grassroots partners on the Island, addressing immediate humanitarian need.
Puerto Ricans are still recovering from the trauma and devastation from Hurricane María. So much of the devastation we’re seeing right now from Hurricane Fiona is from years of inadequate response compounding – most significantly since 2017 when María struck.
So much has not been restored and was not properly addressed from Hurricane María during the Trump Administration.
In order to respond to this crisis and prepare for the future, it is going to take a large amount of investment. What we’re witnessing now are the unaddressed consequences from the previous catastrophe. Puerto Rico cannot wait, we must take action now.
We need to authorize funds immediately, and use this as an opportunity to fund a just transition on the island – not just try to build things back the way they were. We must make major investments in bringing power lines underground, making sure we’re funding renewables, community solar cooperatives, and more.
Please chip in today to help support urgent relief efforts and we’ll be in touch again soon with more ways you can help.
Together we raised $5 million for Texans after a winter storm devastated their grid, let’s step up for Puerto Rico too.
In solidarity,
Team AOC
