“WeDiB has trained me to be a leader, to provide wonderful education throughout my community. Because of WeDiB I am more impactful to my people than I have ever been.”
— Pamela, AtlantaJohn— Black women are essential to our economy, democracy, and society. But we aren’t paid like we’re essential. Despite our hard work and achievements, Black women’s work continues to be horribly undervalued and underpaid: we are paid 63 cents to every dollar that white, non-Hispanic men are paid.

Today is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day , which marks how long it takes the average Black woman, working full-time year-round, to earn what the average white man earns in one year. What does this mean? It means that Black women will have needed to work all the way to today, September 21, just to catch up to what white men earn at the end of 2021.

This is unacceptable. And things are getting worse: last year, Black Women’s Equal Pay Day was more than a month earlier and fell on August 3, 2021. We need to be taking big leaps forward, not going backwards. That’s why our We Dream in Black (WeDiB) initiative is so important during this critical time.

WeDiB uses the power of organizing to shape the future in a way that lifts up the Black domestic workforce and brings value and respect to our labor and the history of our struggle.

We hope that you support our continued work with a $25 donation today. Your gift will help us continue to train and empower Black domestic workers at this crucial time, so that they can continue to push for equity and equality for Black women and all domestic workers. [[link removed]]

Over 300 domestic workers and supporters came together to connect, share, learn and strategize the next steps in our plan for transforming domestic work and empowering Black women and communities.

The Organizing Institute reminded me that, when Black women are empowered and trusted to organize our communities, we always rise to the challenge and show the world that our collective power, and that of other women of color, is unmatched .

Nothing — not misogynoir, not attacks on our democracy, not even state-sanctioned violence — has been able to undermine the strength and power of Black women. And nothing will prevent us from the important work of building a society and economy that centers care and the needs of Black women and other women of color.

Black women have been the backbone of the U.S. economy for centuries , as slaves, domestic workers, farm workers, factory and retail workers, and more. Through it all, we have been leading the movement for rights and respect for all workers.

Now we’re channeling our power and leadership to address all aspects of Black domestic workers’ lives. And by doing so, we will improve conditions for everyone. Because, when you address the needs of the most vulnerable and the most oppressed, everyone wins.

Supporting Black women as we step into their power is critical to NDWA and WeDiB’s mission of creating a caring society that works for everyone, not just the wealthy elite. And this work is only possible because of the generous support from allies like you .

We hope that you continue to support us by chipping in $25 as we head into the midterm elections and begin planning for the work ahead. [[link removed]]
