Instead of investigating skyrocketing energy costs that continue to burden the American people, Democrats on the Oversight Committee held a hearing last week to vilify oil companies and push radical Green New Deal policies. During the hearing, I blasted Democrats’ ludicrous anti-American energy agenda and highlighted how fossil fuels impact our daily lives. Additionally, as you may know, Georgia’s new Plant Vogtle units 3 and 4 will be the first nuclear power reactors to be built in the United States in decades – benefiting Georgians with affordable and reliable energy. Given the importance nuclear power has to the Ninth District, I asked witness Michael Shellenberger, the Founder and President of Environmental Progress, about the role nuclear energy will play in our current and future energy needs. Please click the video below to watch the full exchange.

In addition, the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Protection, and Innovation held a hearing to examine securing industrial control systems against cyberattacks. During my time, I discussed the cybersecurity-related risks small businesses face and the importance of ensuring small business owners are aware of and utilize the resources provided by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). To better understand how CISA’s services can provide key tools to strengthen Northeast Georgian businesses’ capabilities against cyberattacks, I asked witness Eric Goldstein, CISA’s Executive Assistant Director, to explain CISA's beneficial resources. I also asked the Department of Energy’s Senior Advisor for the Cybercore Integration Center, Vergle Gipson, about the importance and safety of nuclear reactors. Two weeks after the Supreme Court released its Dobbs decision, which rightfully overturned Roe v. Wade, the White House issued an Executive Order to protect access to abortion services. As you may know, I led 56 colleagues in demanding President Biden rescind his pro-abortion Executive Order, as it subverts the will of the American people, circumvents the Constitution, and attacks the sanctity of life. Yet instead of protecting the unborn and honoring both our democratic process and the integrity of our nation’s highest court, the President doubled down by issuing a second pro-abortion Executive Order to further increase access to abortion services.
Congress cannot cowardly stand by as the leader of the free world wields his executive power to murder countless innocent unborn lives, which is why last week, I led 90 of my House Republican colleagues in introducing the Protect the UNBORN (Undo the Negligent Biden Orders Right Now) Act. My legislation will block and defund the Biden Administration’s unconscionable, undemocratic, and unconstitutional Executive Orders – because the President simply cannot be allowed to govern by executive fiat to advance the evils of abortion. As a strong pro-life advocate, I’m thankful to have been able to introduce the Protect the UNBORN Act to prevent taxpayer dollars from funding the Left’s radical abortion agenda, preserve the integrity of our nation’s highest court, and protect the sanctity of human life.

As you may know, major credit card companies, including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, recently announced plans to separately categorize gun and ammunition retailers. Let me be clear: targeting gun-related purchases is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and presents the latest unconstitutional attempt to undermine, attack, and vilify law-abiding gun owners. Furthermore, instituting a separate merchant category code for firearm transactions allows credit card companies to establish a national gun registry. Combined with the ATF’s illegal registry of nearly one billion firearm records, this unlawful data is a prerequisite for confiscation — permitting the weaponization and disarmament of gun owners across the nation. As an unapologetic supporter and defender of Second Amendment liberties, I refuse to silently stand by while corporations shamelessly do the bidding of anti-gun activists. In the near future, I will introduce legislation to safeguard Americans’ constitutionally protected firearm purchases from corporations’ tyrannical tracking measures.

For 40 years, the Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has awarded schools throughout the country for exemplary teaching and learning. To date, the program has issued more than 10,000 awards to over 9,000 schools – with some schools winning multiple awards. I’m incredibly proud that Jefferson Elementary School achieved this highly impressive honor this year – rightfully recognizing the hard work of students, parents, educators, and administrators to facilitate a successful learning environment. Congratulations to Jefferson Elementary School for this exciting award and best wishes to all students in the Ninth District on a bright, productive academic year.

This week, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Schumer will continue negotiating a harmful, partisan Continuing Resolution (CR) to temporarily extend government funding. As a strong fiscal conservative, I’ve proudly joined over 40 of my Republican colleagues in the fight to block Democrats’ massive spending bill. Republicans in both chambers must ensure not another penny funds the Left’s radical, wasteful, and inflationary agenda, which is why I will only support a clean CR — extending the Trump Administration budget — to fund the government until the new Congress begins in January. For regular updates on the CR fight, my committee activity, or votes on your behalf, please follow along on Facebook, Instagram, Gettr, and Twitter. Have a blessed week!
