Another Democratic primary debate is in the books, and there’s two major takeaways that I want to highlight:
The good news: A few short years ago, Medicare for All was all but laughed off stage. But last night, it dominated the conversation on health care once again. That’s a testament to the incredible momentum we’ve built in the last year and something we’re incredibly proud of.
The less good news: Some candidates last night repeated the same corporate talking points that have flooded the country in recent months.
But we have a solution: We can send a powerful, impossible-to-ignore message that no amount of misleading talking points will stand in our way. And that we’ll continue to fight for Medicare for All — not just at the presidential level, but in the House and Senate too.
This country is under siege by the rich and powerful — and our current health care system is proof of that. 87 million Americans are uninsured or underinsured, all while the health care industry is on track to make more than $200 billion in profits this year. Watered down proposals like a public option won’t address this crisis — only Medicare for All will.
That’s why it’s so important that we take the time to show support for politicians who are courageous enough to ignore the lobbyists, reject the insurance industry and Big Pharma cash, and instead acknowledge the needs of the people.
Health care is a human right, not something that should be leveraged in a billionaire-funded game of political chess. Let’s make sure we’re doing everything we can to applaud and support the candidates who agree.
In solidarity,
