John, BREAKING NEWS: New York Attorney General Letitia James announced today that following a three-year investigation, the AG’s office is filing a civil suit against Donald Trump for tax fraud. “Trump falsely inflated his net worth by billions of dollars to unjustly enrich himself and to cheat the system, thereby cheating all of us,” Attorney General James said in a press conference this morning. This is a major step forward, but there is more that needs to be done in New York to hold Trump accountable for his myriad financial crimes both in and out of office. Namely, it is now imperative that New York Governor Kathy Hochul move the criminal investigation into the Trump Organization’s record of fraud from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office to the New York Attorney General or to another District Attorney in New York State. Sign if you agree: Governor Hochul must transfer the investigation of the Trump Organization to the New York Attorney General or to another District Attorney in New York State. For the past three years, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has gathered incriminating evidence of numerous financial crimes committed by the Trump Organization. Investigators have shown that the Trump Organization engaged in tax and bank-related fraud, inflating the values of Trump’s properties to obtain favorable loans and lowering them to reduce taxes. But the investigation went off the rails when Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who took over the investigation in January, blocked veteran prosecutors in his office from holding Trump accountable despite the clear evidence of his crimes. Those prosecutors who had been leading the criminal investigation up to that point subsequently resigned. Governor Hochul has the authority to supersede a district attorney’s handling of a case, as established by the New York Court of Appeals, and move it to the New York Attorney General or to another district attorney’s jurisdiction. Nearly 40,000 people have joined us in demanding accountability; will you? Tell Governor Hochul to transfer the criminal investigation of the Trump Organization to the New York Attorney General or to another District Attorney in the state.
