John,
Big win in Pennsylvania this week! The Dignity Act (HB1419), passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives unanimously. Now, the bill moves to the State Senate. Tell your State Senators to protect incarcerated women and pass the Dignity Act!
Far too many pregnant women are subjected to harsh conditions while incarcerated. These include placement in solitary confinement, being subjected to the use of restraints during pregnancy, and limited access to quality visits with their children.
Being incarcerated doesn’t mean you should lose your dignity. Yet that’s what happens to women across the country who are restrained during labor or kept from seeing their families. On Monday, Pennsylvania took an important step to change that! The Dignity Act passed the Pennsylvania House and has moved to the Senate.
Passing the Dignity Act in the Pennsylvania House didn’t happen overnight, for over three years we have been working with our Empathy Leader, Tonie Willis, and an incredible coalition of activists, organizations, state lawmakers, and supporters like you. And now, The Dignity Act is just steps away from becoming law!
Tell Your State Senator To Pass The Dignity Act
This legislation will:
- Protect women from invasive strip searches
- Keep families together w/ more visits for children
- Restrict the use of restraints during and after pregnancy
- Ensure proper food and nutrition access
- Provide access to hygiene products
And more!
Help our prisons be more than dungeons. Take a stand against the needless policies that strip the incarcerated of their dignity. Join us in standing up for women by calling on the Pennsylvania State Senate to pass the Dignity Act today!
In solidarity,
