Friends, Three months ago, I told you that we were launching our 1,000 Doors of Summer campaign. The idea was simple: To get a better sense of what was actually on voters’ minds, I was going to knock 1,000 doors personally over the summer. Well, today is officially the last day of summer. And I’m proud to report, I just knocked the 1,000th door. Along the way, I reported back to you on things I was hearing. A woman who works at McDonald’s who asked me to focus on creating a better state for her children to live in. A couple who talked to me about water runoff issues in their neighborhood. A man who told me that he would never vote for me under any circumstances, and with whom I had a pleasant conversation that certainly did not change his mind. I also shared the occasional adventure — as we had with the escape (and safe return) of Biscuit, the fluffy white dog — and random observations, such as the general friendliness of Subaru owners. It was a major investment of time by our campaign, but it was time well spent. Now I’ve personally been all across the district, in all types of communities, and I’ve gotten a sense of what folks really think. The only reason we were able to take this approach is because you chose to support it through emails like this. I’m very grateful for that. Now I’m going to take what I learned and incorporate it into our closing argument to the voters of this district. I think we’re going to have a number of strong arguments to make, and over the next few weeks I’m going to share them with you. Please help us make that argument.
