Folks,

It’s been a long, busy week in Washington, and I wanted to make sure you heard directly from me.

This week, I voted in favor of both articles of impeachment against President Trump. The President’s actions — inviting foreign interference into our elections and withholding aid to Ukraine and refusing to cooperate with Congress’ investigation — were an abuse of power.

The Founders placed the Impeachment process in the Constitution as a fail safe, as a way to remove a president during his or her term of office under grave circumstances, especially if a President’s misconduct involves an upcoming election.

I didn’t want or expect to impeach the President but his abuse of power compounded by his refusal to cooperate with Congress’ impeachment inquiry left me no choice. His actions risked people’s lives and our national security.

I believe the evidence to be damning and overwhelming, and I hope my colleagues in the Senate take to heart their oath of impartiality during the Senate trial.

But that’s not all that my colleagues and I have been working on in Congress.

Within the last few weeks, we’ve also:
  • Completed the FY20 budget and avoided another government shutdown
  • Funded research into gun violence, the first such funding in decades
  • Passed legislation to dramatically lower the cost of prescription drugs
  • Increased our investment in renewable energy
  • Secured funding to protect our election systems
  • Passed a bill to help Americans save for retirement
  • Increased investment in Colorado’s aerospace and defense industries
...and all of this is on top of more than 400 bills we’ve passed in the House this year that are currently sitting untouched in Mitch McConnell’s self-described legislative graveyard.

Make no mistake, folks — we’re focused on a lot more than impeaching the President.

Despite everything going on, I’ve never forgotten my main focus in Congress: to represent and serve you. Thank you for all the support you’ve shown me this year.
