It’s been a little while since we’ve sent you some updates from the road! J.D. has been moving along on his first 39-county tour of Iowa’s 4th district -- in fact, he’s already visited 33 towns of less than 1,000 people to listen and learn about the challenges and opportunities of our small towns.

We can’t wait to get back on the road to keep this going in 2020 -- but we need your help to make sure we can finish our first 39-county tour and meet with, listen to, and learn from every voter possible.

Now, a look at where we’ve been:

We heard that North Union High School in Armstrong (pop. 863) lost several of its teachers to Fairmont, MN, a town just across the border that pays its teachers $8,000 more. Our district needs a representative who will fight for better wages and investments in education.

In Ute (pop. 345), Michelle told us about her son’s struggles as a farmer. Their farm is his home and his life, but “get big or get off the farm policies” are limiting their markets, taking away their choices, and reducing their independence. We need to do everything we can to empower everyday farmers and enforce our antitrust laws.

It was great to have Senator Cory Booker join J.D. in Harlan to talk about how important it is that no community is left behind, no matter how large or small the population is. Everyone deserves the same opportunities and access to schools, grocery stores, banks, and hospitals.

In Mondamin (pop. 379), folks huddled together during a chilly Iowa evening. J.D. and our community members came together to talk about how we can solve the biggest problems ahead, including job security, access to grocery stores, and improvements to our schools.

Churdan (pop. 370) showed up to see J.D. and share their experiences with pre-existing conditions, failing infrastructure, and corporate consolidation in the ag industry.

And finally, we took a break from the campaign trail for J.D. to play a light-hearted 3 on 3 basketball game with presidential candidate Andrew Yang in Ames. The athlete and competitor in J.D. never goes away, even on the campaign trail!
