Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW of North America just took a major
step to slash climate pollution.

In a powerful rebuke to the Trump administration, these four automakers have announced their commitment to keep innovating and reducing dangerous pollution even if
Trump's EPA rolls back the regulations and attacks the separate
state clean cars program currently requiring them to do so.

Please join us in celebrating this step forward by making your
contribution to our Summer Match campaign:

Your gift will be doubled in value to fund our work with state
governments and private sector businesses to keep making progress on
climate when the federal government fails us.

Under Obama-era Clean Cars Standards and under the leading state clean
cars program, automakers have been gradually improving their vehicles
so they emit less climate and smog pollution, get better gas mileage
and save Americans hard-earned money at the gas pump.

President Trump's EPA has been working to roll back those
regulations and freeze the current 37 mpg standard ... with no
timeline for any future improvements.

The Trump administration has been pursuing a multi-pronged attack to
permanently block climate pollution limits under the landmark state
clean vehicle standards adopted by California and 14 other states.

Now, the four automakers - who together represent 30% of the
U.S. auto market - continue making substantial annual progress
and to produce fleets comparable to 50 mpg by 2026 - and to do
so on a nationwide basis even if the Trump administration adopts the
rollbacks.

Because these agreement would apply to all vehicles manufactured by
these companies nationwide it will deliver more climate pollution
reductions than if these reductions took place only in the states
having more protective standards.

Further, the auto companies working with California will not support
the Trump rollbacks publicly or in court.

And here at EDF we are pursuing and preparing extensive litigation
that will slow and block the Trump attacks on our nation's and
the states' vital clean vehicle standards.

The news is a
beacon of hope for people like you and me who are distraught over the
Trump's administration's all-out war on climate action.

When Trump's EPA abdicated its responsibility to protect us from
climate change, 14 forward-thinking states and D.C., led by
California, stepped up with pledges to enforce their own protective
standards.

When Trump's White House pulled the plug on joint efforts with
Canada to slash North American climate pollution, Canada stayed the
course.

Faced with a regulatory nightmare that would divide the North American
market and force automakers to produce cleaner cars for one half of
the continent, these automakers decided that building dirtier cars for
the other half just wasn't worth it.

Even as the Trump administration works overtime to dismantle U.S.
climate action, we have the power to keep making progress - but
only when we stand together and make our collective voice too loud to
ignore.

So please stand with 2,855 EDF members who have already contributed to
our Summer Match and put us over 60% of the way to our $500,000 goal.

Your participation is critical to ensuring we unlock the maximum
matching gift possible and don't leave a single dollar on the table.

Thank you for adding your voice to the climate action chorus,

P.S. EDF's legal team has filed a formal challenge to the
rollback, is in court suing to make public documents revealing the
corruption behind the rollbacks, is preparing to forcefully litigate
against Trump's final action and our experts have been working
with California, other states and leading auto companies to keep
making progress. Every $35 you donate to our Summer Match
will unlock another $70 to support climate action at
every level and every branch of government.
