John,
Did you know Black women typically make just 58 cents to every dollar paid to white men?
Or – did you know Black mothers make 50 cents to every dollar white fathers make?
How about this one – did you know Black women caregivers spend a greater percentage of time and money on caregiving?
Pay equality ensures Black Women have what they need to care for their families without constant financial worry and stress.
Today is Black Women Equal Pay Day. Add your name to the petition now: [link removed]
Black women represent a disproportionate number of the 53 million unpaid caregivers in the US – many of who are leading the charge for paid leave, affordable child care, and accessible home and community-based care for all.
As a caregiver for my mother and a working actress, I know firsthand the struggles of Black women caregivers in this country. We must pay Black women what they deserve.
When I’m not playing “Mercedes” from P-Valley, I help my mother in her day-to-day life while focusing on my career and my own needs. Juggling my acting and caregiving can be difficult but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Caregiving is a vital part of my life and an essential component of the lives of many Black women.
Join me in demanding pay equity for Black women. Sign the petition to support better wages for Black Women caregivers: [link removed].
Let’s build a world together where Black caregivers are seen and paid what they deserve.
With care,
Brandee Evans,
Actress and Caregiving Advocate
PS: Join me for a #CareCantWait Roundtable discussion in Georgia on October 1st. You can attend either virtually or in-person. RSVP here: [link removed].
During the Roundtable, we’ll talk with family caregivers, care advocates, and Georgia lawmakers like Reps Park Cannon, William Boddie, and Kim Schofield about the needs of Georgians who don’t have access to paid leave, affordable child care, and accessible long term home care for all.
