Dear John,

Are Canadians getting good value for our tax dollars?

Considering how much we pay, it's a reasonable question to ask!

A new study published by the Fraser Institute today finds that the average Canadian family paid more in 2021 on taxes than it did on housing, food and clothing combined.

Last year, the average family spent 43% of its income on taxes and 36% on basic necessities.

That is a dramatic shift since 1961, when the average family spent 33.5% on taxes and 56.5% on basic necessities.

Sincerely,

Niels Veldhuis
