John,
A study examining the cost of voting in each state came out this week, and as expected, blue states mostly led the way. The coronavirus and 2020 elections really amplified the necessary efforts needed to upgrade our voting laws and most states responded.
Except for Connecticut. Connecticut, a state whose legislative chambers are roughly 60% Democrat, ranked 30th in terms of how easy it was to vote.
A state like Connecticut should be leading the way in access to the ballot box, not behind a dozen red states in 30th. Why is this happening? Because state legislators in blue states are conservative and only advocate for the status quo.
We must support groups that are pushing these legislators to become more progressive or support their challengers in elections. It’s the only way to make clear how serious we are about progress.
In solidarity,
Downballot Progress
