Dear friends,
I am excited to share remarkable news: A resolution was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that, if enacted, would revolutionize global health.
It’s called the Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution (H.R. 1373), and it honors the life of PIH Co-founder Dr. Paul Farmer by recognizing the duty of the federal government to do far more to advance global health equity than has ever been done before.
Immediately after Paul’s passing, his long-term supporters and admirers in the U.S. Congress began discussing how to honor Paul and carry his vision forward. They knew the best way to honor Paul’s legacy was by taking action in solidarity with the world’s most marginalized and vulnerable communities.
The Resolution is built on two pillars of Paul’s extraordinary life, solidarity and justice, and it enshrines his vision for global health equity by providing practical policy solutions to make it a reality.
I invite you to contact your Representative today about this historic piece of legislation and urge them to co-sponsor it as a vital step towards actualizing our shared mission: |
This Resolution calls for the following, rooted in Paul’s studies, writings, and advocacy throughout his life: -
Increased U.S. global health spending by over a hundred billion dollars per year, as well as investments in national health infrastructure, and
- Action from the government to address past and ongoing harms that undermine the health and wellbeing of people around the world
This Resolution is bold and unprecedented. It is an essential next step for global justice in health care. Please, contact your representative today and demand their commitment to global health equity >>
We’re grateful for your partnership in carrying forward Paul’s legacy in this monumental way. In solidarity,
Dr. Sheila Davis Chief Executive Officer Partners In Health
