Senator Lindsey Graham has introduced a federal abortion ban, which infringes on the privacy of a medical decision that should be between a woman and her doctor.
This is a clear signal that the GOP will outlaw access to safe and legal abortion if they retake the majority this November.
Just a few months ago, Republicans applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, saying reproductive rights should be left up to the states. Now Senate Republicans are openly admitting they want to pass federal legislation to ban abortions – Graham himself went on Fox News to declare that abortion “is not a states’ rights issue.”
The answer is obvious: It’s never been about states’ rights. It’s always been about controlling women — our reproductive rights and our economic security.
