Urgent Action Fund Asia & the Pacific joins the consortium of Sister Funds in 2017
UAF A&P joined the three other sister funds in carrying on the 22-year legacy of connecting activists to movements, resources, and care. The Sister Fund model uniquely blends the relevance and efficacy of locally-led programs with the power of a global network.
Resist & Reclaim Is Born
Since the launch of the Resist & Reclaim fund in 2016, rapid response granting in the USA has increased significantly. With the recent surge of hateful rhetoric and violence, the Resist & Reclaim fund was set in place to help activists, especially activists of color, to resist discriminatory policies, access security training, and take steps to protect themselves and their communities when under threat.

Queer and Trans Youth Mobilizes In
Response To Hate Crimes
The 2016 US Presidential election emboldened racial violence and increased hate crimes. In response, a youth group sought a rapid response grant and used it to mobilize security training sessions on police brutality, public attacks, and lifesaving techniques like first aid and CPR for adolescent girls of color, queer, and transgender youth in New Orleans.
The Conversation on Self-Care
Through a pilot program that began in 2014, UAF has been expanding on the conversation of activists' self-care. Since then, UAF has made efforts to build resilient movements through collective models of care and collective integrated security approaches. Integrating wellbeing and security for individual women and trans human rights defenders can help sustain organizations, networks, and movements.
Calls for Peace and Democracy
In the Spring of 2011, peaceful protesters in Tunisia and Egypt demanded democracy. The protests continued and spread to Iraqi Kurdistan while militias later turned the gathering violent. With UAF funds, Asuda, a Kurdish women’s organization, convened a meeting of women from diverse political parties, media outlets, and community organizations. The women formed a peace group to work with media outlets and launch a peace campaign.
At Urgent Action Fund, we believe we are all co-conspirators in our fight for liberation. We have helped create systemic change through fast, flexible, participatory grantmaking led by grassroots leaders on the ground in each of our regions.
With over 1,000 grants given in the since 2010, we want the next 10 years to have an even bigger impact. Support women’s and trans human rights around the world by making a donation. ([link removed][UNIQID])
