Largest COVID pandemic fraud case in the entire country and unique to MN

CHASKA, MN – Dr. Scott Jensen (R-Chaska), Minnesota gubernatorial candidate, released the following statement after President Biden-appointed United States District Attorney Andrew Luger announced indictments of 47 individuals associated with $250 million in federal COVID food aid under Governor Tim Walz's (DFL-St. Paul) watch. The dollars were designated exclusively for Minnesota students and families to feed them during the pandemic while schools were shut down by Walz.

“While Governor Walz shut down schools during the pandemic, the federal government gave us a lifeline in additional federal aid to feed children and families who needed meals during that trying time,” said Dr. Jensen, a Minnesota Family Doctor of the Year. “However, under Governor Walz, a quarter billion dollars were stolen from their mouths by an Education Department and Walz-appointed commissioner who failed to do their jobs and prevent fraudulent activity from occurring in the first place. As outlined by a comprehensive Minnesota Senate Education Committee report ([link removed]) , Walz’s education department and commissioner failed to establish accountable business practices, broke state and federal law, and still to this day refuse to admit that they did anything wrong. In fact, the CFO for the Minnesota Department of Education claimed during a legislative hearing that their “policies and procedures worked.”
([link removed]) Obviously, that’s a barefaced lie. Every Minnesotan can see that accountability is desperately needed, and while I will bring that when elected on November 8^th, Tim Walz owes every citizen of our state the courtesy of asking for his education commissioner to resign.”

Governor Walz appointed Heather Mueller, Ed. D. to the position of Minnesota Education Commissioner in 2021 after his previous commissioner, Mary Cathryn Ricker, resigned to spend more time in the classroom. Commissioner Mueller started her career and served as an administrator in the Mankato Area Public Schools ([link removed]) , the same district in which Governor Walz and his wife worked in ([link removed]) , with their tenures overlapping. According to United States Attorney Andrew Luger, the $250 million in fraud under Commissioner Mueller and Governor Walz is “the largest pandemic fraud in the country, and the charges amount to one of the largest federal fraud cases ever brought in Minnesota.”

“Under the watch of Governor Walz and Commissioner Mueller, the largest case of pandemic fraud in the country occurred,” concluded Dr. Jensen. “Today, the United States Attorney General’s office is making clear what we already know: fraud is widespread in Minnesota under the lack of leadership exhibited by Tim Walz. It’s time he finally leads and asks for the resignation of Commissioner Mueller.”
