Ok, that sounds a little high-falutin’. But as senior director for strategic planning, I work with my team to find the best possible solutions to climate change and some of our other big environmental problems.
And there’s one thing I’ve learned: The best solutions in the world won’t accomplish much if they never leave the pages of academic journals.
That is why it’s so critical that we educate decision-makers in government and media about how those solutions — like solar and wind R & D, tax credits for electric vehicles and climate policies like carbon pricing and pollution limits — can make our environment cleaner, our climate safer and our economy stronger.
It’s my job to recruit enthusiastic and influential participants in the clean energy revolution. But I just can’t do it without you.
You can support my quest to unleash America’s clean energy future by making a donation to our Year-End Match. For a short time, every $1 you give will unlock $2 more, tripling the value of your contribution.
A few months ago, I was invited to Congress to testify in front of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology about getting America to zero net climate emissions.
I told the committee about policies that could dramatically accelerate our transition to zero net emissions by spurring the kind of large-scale investment and innovation that led past generations of Americans to cure polio, crack the DNA code, send astronauts to the moon and bring them home safely.
I told them time is running out to prevent dangerous and potentially irreversible climate change impacts — like widespread species extinction, super-fires, spread of disease, catastrophic storms and flooding and more that will cost human lives, destroy communities, disrupt economies and create humanitarian crises around the world that turn millions into climate refugees.
I told them that future generations will never forgive us if we allow that nightmare to become real.
And most importantly, I told them it doesn’t have to.
America has the intellectual capital, the research infrastructure, the workforce and the manufacturing prowess to solve our technology and climate challenges.
What we need now is decisive leadership to unite all Americans in purpose as we face one of the greatest threats our species has ever known.
Will you stand united with more than 8,700 EDF members who have already contributed over $1.44 million to our Year-End Match?
Together with the matching funds they unlocked, that’s over $4.32 million to fight climate change and bring cleaner, more affordable energy to more American communities in 2020.
Thank you for standing with us at this critical moment in history, and thank you for supporting my work. Together, I KNOW, we can win.
