After a decade of organizing, fast food workers achieve landmark win.

John,

We have BIG news. A few weeks ago, Victor gave you a rundown on #HotLaborSummer here in California and I’m here with an exciting update.

Over the past decade, fast-food workers, union members, and allies have initiated more than 400 strikes and filed nearly 300 health, safety, and wage complaints against greedy corporations, making the struggles of California fast food workers impossible to ignore. This past labor day, Governor Newsom listened and signed AB 257.

Fast Food workers have been fighting for a seat at the table for nearly 10 years. On Labor Day it became official: Gov. Newsom signed AB 257 into law, marking one of the biggest wins for workers in decades.

This is a graphic of workers holding up yellow, red, and orange flags and signs at a protest with the words: "WORKERS WIN , GOVERNOR SIGNS AB257"  appearing in white text in front of the image.

Will you thank our workers and spread the word about this landmark win?

AB 257 gives California's 500,000+ fast-food workers a seat at the table by establishing a Fast Food Council with the power to set industry-wide standards for wages, health, safety, and training. This is a HUGE win for California fast-food workers, almost 80% of whom are people of color, more than 60% of whom are Latinx, and two-thirds of whom are women.

Workers across our state are stepping up to raise standards across their industries and ensure every worker is respected, protected, and paid a living wage. Fast food bosses are already scrambling to try to roll back these gains. But this win shows us what’s possible when working people stay united and make their voices heard.

This is the momentum we need. When we come together, we win.

In Solidarity,
