Dear Friend,
We have no power. We have no water. Massive parts of the island are still underwater.
When Hurricane Fiona struck, we had no idea how much devastation it would cause in Puerto Rico. Our thoughts immediately went to Hurricane Maria, which hit just 5 years ago and we are still recovering from it.
How many more hurricanes do we have to endure? When will the elected leaders finally act to stop the devastation?
Right now, Senator Chuck Schumer–my former Senator–is trying to jam through a dirty pipeline bill to expand fossil fuel pipelines across the country and fast-track their permitting.
All of this is happening in Washington while we sit here without power or water, caused by another hurricane, another climate disaster that is the direct result of increased fossil fuel usage.
We need to take direct action on climate change to stop these disasters from happening and kill this legislation that Schumer is pushing through congress. Click here to sign the petition.
What Puerto Ricans need right now is not another oil industry-sponsored bill, WE NEED RELIEF, relief from the natural disasters the oil and gas industry is causing. Click here to support mutual aid efforts in Puerto Rico.
Right now, Schumer should be using his time to win immediate relief for families in Puerto Rico, not spending it pushing through an oil and gas lobbyist bill.
Best,
