Congresswoman Val Demings is a lifelong public servant who fights for the safety and well-being of America’s working families. As a former social worker and law enforcement officer, she worked to protect the most vulnerable and made it a habit to break barriers as she rose to become Orlando’s first woman Chief of Police and to represent Florida’s 10th District in Congress.
The daughter of hardworking parents who worked as a janitor and maid, Rep. Demings fights to make the American Dream that she has lived from the Jim Crow South to the halls of the Congress accessible to everyone. Right now, this pro-choice Harley Davidson-riding grandmother is on her way to shattering yet another glass ceiling to become the first Black U.S. Senator from Florida.

In the House, Val continues her service as a guardian of our personal freedoms, community safety, national security, and Democracy on the House Judiciary, Intelligence and Homeland Security Committees. In 2020, she stepped up once again to defend our Constitution by serving as an impeachment manager to hold a lawless president accountable. As Chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, she takes a lead role in helping our communities recover from national emergencies and disasters.
Congresswoman Demings will be sorely missed in the House, but we could not be more thrilled that she will soon represent millions of Floridians who deserve a Senator who cares about them and their future.
