Legislative Update
I was proud to join the Ross
Township Commissioners, Ross
Township Police Department, Rep.
Emily Kinkead, and members of Chief Vernon Moses’s family on
September 9th to celebrate the dedication of the Chief Vernon Moses
Memorial Highway in Ross Township. This portion of Route 19 between
Ivory Avenue and Cemetery Lane is dedicated to former Police
Chief Vernon Moses, who was killed in the line of duty on May 3, 1932.
I’m happy that my legislation honoring the life and legacy of
Chief Moses was passed this year, during the celebration of the 100th
anniversary of the Ross Township Police Department.
Good News
Tarentum Fall
Festival
Congratulations to Tarentum
Borough for putting on another successful Fall Festival this year!
We were there on September 10th and enjoyed talking and providing
state resources to residents as they enjoyed the last day of the
three-day event. Thanks for stopping by our table!
McCandless
Community Day
We had a great time celebrating
with the Town
of McCandless at their Community Day on September 10th! With a new
township manager and upcoming
comprehensive plan, there were lots of opportunities for residents
to interact with their local government. Thanks for stopping by our
table to talk about your state government!
Northland
Public Library: Breakfast, Books, and
Beyond!
September is Love Your Library
Month! I learned so much about Northland
Public Library in McCandless last Thursday touring with my fellow
legislators. Did you know that in 2021 Northland Public Library
checked out 940,000 items? That is more than twice the number checked
out by any other library in Allegheny County! Executive Director Amy
Steele and her staff gave us a comprehensive tour, including a peek at
behind-the-scenes materials processing, the children’s library
selection process, computer center community support, reference desk
use, and program planning. Libraries aren’t just a place to
check out a book, they are a constantly evolving resource for
communities.

last year’s snow. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to pick up
resources and candy from our table.
