Hey there —
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Roe earlier this summer, we’ve seen a wave of reproductive rights and justice activists and organizers standing up to defend abortion access in their communities. But still, last week, the Governor of West Virginia signed a near-total abortion ban into law – making it the fourth and final Groundwork Project partner state to have banned abortion.
This is a terrible development for the Mountain State, and it puts into stark focus exactly what Groundwork Project is all about: the importance of building political power in communities and states that have been long-ignored by the political establishment.
We were in West Virginia last week and heard firsthand how focused our grantees are on fighting back against this abortion ban. Fortunately, there’s still time to make a difference for those on the ground in WV. Here are two organizations on the ground that could use your help right now:
Women’s Health Center of West Virginia [[link removed]] provides accessible, personalized reproductive health care ranging from abortion care and birth control to emergency contraception and STI testing.
Holler Health Justice [[link removed]] is a POC and queer-led racial, economic, and reproductive justice nonprofit and abortion fund in West Virginia.
As one of our partner states, we’re already working hard to help our organizers on the ground in West Virginiain any way we can.
Thanks,
Groundwork Project
