Dear members and supporters,
Mark your calendars for our eighth national MEMBERSHIP ASSEMBLY [3],
October 5–8, 2022, on Ohlone Territory in Oakland, California!
The GGJ Membership Assembly is the highest decision-making body of our
alliance, where each grassroots member organization discusses, debates, and
ultimately votes to set our next political and program priorities. The
Membership Assembly also facilitates resource sharing, popular and
political education, healing, and dialogue among member organizations
alongside national and international allies.
Prior to each assembly, we engage in a deep consultation process across our
membership to craft working proposals for deliberation and approval.
Members also elect the Coordinating Committee to oversee and guide our
political direction. In October 2022, we’re bringing together 200 members
from Turtle Island, Puerto Rico, Hawai’i, and Guam, along with
international allies from Brazil, Haiti, Nigeria, Palestine, and Turkey to
determine our best contribution to the movement in the period ahead.

DREAM BEYOND BARS AND BORDERS ACTION [4] (STREET ACTION IN OAKLAND, CA)

Meet us in Oscar Grant Plaza (also called Frank H. Ogawa Plaza) for a march
and action led by two local organizations: Communities United for
Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ) and Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA). The
action will lift up both organizations’ campaigns around divesting from
systems of harm and investing in healing, wellness, and
community-controlled grassroots power. This will include a flashmob that we
learned from our Chilean feminist friends. We will close with a dinner and
rally at the Chinatown Resilience Hub that APEN has fought for and
developed over many years.

A series of dialogues between the Brazilian popular movement and US based
electoral organizing sectors: Lessons from experiments in contending for
governing power, combating the right, and developing political

To create the conditions for powerful engagement in programs like our
Membership Assembly, GGJ prioritizes using our funds for members. We use
funds to ensure that our working class membership have their needs met
during the program, so they can be fully present to lead politically.
Operations are an opportunity for us to embody and practice the values we
are fighting for. We cover all the costs of what it takes to participate,
such as travel, lodging, meals, interpretation and translation, childcare,
healers and an on-call Nurse Practitioner, to support wellness, high
quality masks, and COVID antigen tests. Participants in the Membership
Assembly are raising funds to support these costs. Member crowdfunding

[3], del 5 al 8 de octubre de 2022, en el Territorio Ohlone en Oakland,
California!
La Asamblea de Miembros de GGJ es el máximo órgano de toma de decisiones
de nuestra alianza, donde cada organización miembro de base discute,
debate y finalmente vota para establecer nuestras próximas prioridades
políticas y programáticas. La Asamblea de Membresía también facilita el
intercambio de recursos, la educación popular y política, la sanación y
el diálogo entre las organizaciones miembras junto con les aliades
nacionales e internacionales.
Antes de cada asamblea, llevamos a cabo un profundo proceso de consulta
entre nuestra membresía para elaborar propuestas de trabajo para su
deliberación y aprobación. La membresía también elige al Comité de
Coordinación para que supervise y guíe nuestra dirección política. En
octubre de 2022, reuniremos a 200 miembres de la Isla de la Tortuga, Puerto
Rico, Hawai y Guam, junto con aliades internacionales de Brasil, Haití,
Nigeria, Palestina y Turquía para determinar la mejor contribucion que
podemodos dar al movimiento en el período que se avecina.
