This year we saw Steve Mulroy in Shelby County, Tennessee, which includes Memphis, win his election and be sworn in as the District Attorney.

He defeated Amy Wierich, who was one of the worst DAs in America. She was a champion for mass incarceration who worked to lengthen prison sentences and even do away with parole entirely. She also tried to send a Black woman to jail for voting.

Despite Amy’s terrible policies, people thought his race was a wash. That there was no chance because a Democrat hadn’t been elected for DA in Shelby County for decades.

But we didn’t let that stop us. We provided key support to Steve, and with your help, we were able to push him to victory.

He won by 16,000 votes, SWEEPING the race.

As soon as he won, Steve talked about starting a Conviction Integrity Unit to overturn wrongful convictions, focusing on violent crime instead of criminalizing mental health crises and substance use issues, and ending bail policies that keep poor, Black people in jail.

Now he has been sworn in and is hard at work building a system to save lives and pursue real justice in Memphis and it was only possible because of generous donors like you.

This is where your money goes — direct work to elect leaders who are changing our justice system from the ground up.
