Back in 2018, I was just a nerd who wanted to make a difference so I decided to run for office. I was a first-time candidate running in a battleground district that no Democrat had won since 1970 – a whole year before I was born.

My opponent was better-funded, had fancier TV ads, and had all the resources of the national GOP at his disposal. But we offered workable solutions to real problems, and kept rising in the polls. When all was said and done, we won by an impressive 7-point margin.

But it’s one thing to run as a first-time candidate under the GOP’s radar. It’s a completely different story when you’re an unapologetic critic of gun manufacturers, climate deniers, and right-wing conspiracy theorists.

That’s made me a top target for the GOP political machine. Dark money groups are working hard to defeat me and retake the House majority. My campaign even received a cease and desist letter from a right-wing hate group allied with my GOP opponent.

We’ll need to fight even harder to defend this seat in 2022 – so will you chip in $25 or whatever you can to help us stay on track for our FEC deadline?
