Dear John,
Government funding is set to expire at the end of this month. To avert a shutdown, Congress must enact a stopgap measure—known as a continuing resolution—by Sept. 30.
That means our elected officials need to hear from us now.
Tell Congress: Pass a continuing resolution to fund the government—without harming people or the planet!
Elected officials must say NO to more taxpayer dollars for abusive immigration enforcement, police forces that target and kill people, and fossil fuel projects. Instead, we must invest in health care, affordable housing, education, and promoting safe, healthy communities for all.
Congress must also ensure that the continuing resolution is short-term—and pass next year’s budget before the end of this calendar year. Any further delay would create a flat funding structure for government agencies. In a time of inflation, that would amount to a funding cut, reducing money for critical services to our communities.
Today people across the U.S. continue to face rising costs and a pandemic that has left millions struggling to make ends meet.
Urge Congress to pass a continuing resolution that meets human needs—and builds toward a healthier, more just future for all!
In peace,
