John,
There's no doubt that we have a crisis on America's southern border as a surge of Illegal migrants are arriving, while Congress seems largely paralyzed on this issue.
The common perception out there is that Democrats are doing little to secure the border and that Republicans want to take somewhat draconian moves that appear to lack compassion or understanding.
Ultimately, these tactics by both sides are unimaginative and produce bad policy results. They both are rallying the more radical wings of their parties rather than coming together to solve this challenge, which is the only way to enact lasting reforms.
We got news last week that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent a large group of migrants to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts as a publicity stunt. Texas Gov. Abbott has taken similar actions, sending migrants from Texas to other states this summer.
There is no doubt that southern states are largely shouldering the burden of illegal immigration, but have they gone too far with these attempts to force immigration reform by sending migrants to Democrat led-states in the north?
To me, the answer is YES.
